Cool Stuff Happening

Hey it was good to talk to you! That’s cool you're having the missionaries over.
Wow...so this guy that works here where we e mail just had Elder Garr and I come and sing a couple Christmas songs to a bunch of Korean ladies ha! It was kind of fun. Anyway, we got our house cleaned up today from all the Christmas stuff so it's a lot better. We've been having a good week, but a kid named Huh Sung Ho that we set a baptismal date with won't be able to meet anymore.
Yesterday, we went to the bank and one of the guys working there started talking to us and said he used to meet with missionaries, but he hadn't for a long time, but he still wants to so we got his name and number. Later that day we ran into him at a bus stop. He came back to the church with us for a while and we helped him with some English and talked with him about the restoration. He wants to keep meeting us! Pretty sweet huh? I've had a lot of cool stuff like that happen in this area. It's been pretty cool. We are definitely being blessed. Well, have a good week. I love you!

Merry Christmas Conference

Can you spot Elder Lufkin?

President Burton

Sister Burton, Sister Knudsen

Our Christmas Conference yesterday was way fun. We left after breakfast to go to it and we were there til 6:00. We heard from President Burton and Sister Burton and from Elder Choi from the 70 and from his wife. We ate lunch and all wrote a letter to our families and then we had a nativity play and a talent show for each zone that was there. Last of all we watched a movie about our mission that had a lot of pics from the last year and we each got a copy of it. Oh and we had a white elephant gift exchange and I ended up with a can of peanut butter which was the thing that everyone wanted. Ha. After we got home we met an investigator named Ho Sung Ho that we met about a week ago. We taught him about half of the plan of salvation. He really likes the gospel. FHE on Monday was pretty fun. Only guys came so we played dodge ball the whole time. For the lesson we watched a movie about the Christmas spirit and read the story in Luke 2:1-16. Oh and last Sunday we also got invited to a Stake Christmas Party and it was way cool. It was pretty much a big musical and at the end they had all us missionaries come up and they gave us each a present. There are about 18 missionaries in our stake. And on Saturday for English class we had a Christmas party and watched "The Grinch". It was so funny! I don't think the Koreans understood a lot of the humor though. It's been a really fun week but it will be nice to just have a normal week again too though.
Hey, I missed the Christmas party at the ranch, huh? Sounds like the (Nativity) play was great. Laura's way good at that kind of stuff.
So, I get to talk to all of you tomorrow morning! I'm excited to open all the presents I got!
Well have a Merry Christmas! I'll talk to you tomorrow.

New Companion, Elder Garr

Hey, I'll call at 10:00 AM (Christmas Day) so it'll be 6:00 PM (Christmas Eve)in Idaho. We're only supposed to be on the phone for 40 min though. I think that would be good to just talk to people individually. I'm excited! I got the package from you yesterday. Thanks! I'm excited to open it. It is under our fake tree that we found on our porch.
Elder Garr and I have had a good week. He's a way good missionary and we get along way good. We've already seen a lot of success together. On Tuesday, we taught more lessons than any other day of my mission so far. Oh yeah, and last Sunday Jo Gi Hyun and Kim Sang Hoon both got baptized. The services both went really well and they're doing great. On the 23rd, we have a big conference at the mission headquarters with our whole mission. I think we'll be at that all day long then work on Christmas Eve and on Christmas day we have P day. So I'll be talking to you in a few days. I love you.

December Transfers-New Companion

I got a new companion today and I'm staying here in Dong Jak. Elder Rigby is going to be a zone leader in another stake. My new comp. is Elder Garr from St.George,Utah. He has been out for 7.5 more months than me. He seems like a really good missionary and we get along good. He's our new District Leader, also, instead of Elder Rigby. He said he has lost like 80 lbs on his mission! Elder Skousen also left our house and Elder Fisher from St. George, came in to work with Elder Nye.
Kim Sang Hoon and Jo Gi Hyun are both getting baptized this Sunday. Kim Sang Hoon was supposed to last week, but he ended up having to work, so he will get baptized this Sunday as long as he doesn't have to work. He really wants to get baptized, but if he tells his boss that he can't work one day then he might just get fired. Elder Rigby should be able to come here after church in his other area and baptize one of them.
Anyways, things are still going great here. Ee Dong He and Sheen Yong Ha and their friend might come play basketball with us today. I haven't seen them for about 2 months so it'll be good.
It's been pretty cold here lately too, but we have lots of clothes.
Sorry, I'm kinda tired right now because we woke up early for transfers this morning. It really throws you off when you have the exact schedule every day.
I sent a package, for all the fam that lives in Idaho, by boat a long time ago. Hopefully it gets there. Have a great week! I love you!

Thanksgiving Dinner

We had an awesome Thanksgiving dinner. We ate at an army base with a bunch of American families. They had most the usual foods that we have for Thanksgiving except for your vegetables with the Ritz on them. I missed that. They gave us two huge bags of ham and turkey to take home too, so we ate that all week. We don't really have much transportation costs in this area so we've been able to eat really good here. I've gained about 10 lbs in the last 3 months. I love our breakfasts here. Me and Elder Rigby eat the same thing every day: 2 potatoes sliced up, a bunch of pork, and 6-8 eggs all fried up together with some ketchup on it. Well, that’s about all I will say about food. Ha.
So Kim Sang Hoon is planning to get baptized this Monday night instead of family home evening and Jo Gi Hyun is getting baptized a week from this Sunday. They're both doing really good, but they're really busy with school and their jobs. We got a referral last week from our Gospel Principles class teacher Ee Gi Oak. It's her fiancé. We've met him once and we're meeting him again tonight. He already goes to another church, but he's pretty open to our message.
Elder Rigby and I taught the lesson in FHE last week and we read the story of the Brother of Jared getting light for the barges and we talked about how they can exercise their faith. It was pretty fun.

Yesterday we had Zone Conference all day. It was awesome. Sister Burton made us all lunch and we ate inside their house. She's a way good cook. President Burton and Sister Burton both gave some good training and talks. President's was about our purpose as missionaries and focusing on that purpose instead of worrying about stats and stuff. My favorite quote that he said was, "What are we willing to give up to feel the spirit more abundantly?"
Sister Burton's is always really spiritual. She talked about 10 gifts that she was trying to give to Christ and shared a scripture for each one, and then we sang a hymn for each one. The spirit was really strong when we sang "This is the Christ"
So as you can tell it’s been a killer week, especially yesterday with conference. I'm glad you're doing so well. Have a great week!
Love,
Elder Lufkin

Sweet FHE's

Last night was awesome! We met Kim Sang Hoon and Jo Gi Hyun with members and they are both planning to be baptized. Kim Sang Hoon will be baptized on the 6th. We met him on the street about 2 months ago and he has been slowly progressing ever since. He always comes to our FHE on Monday nights and I think the good lessons the other missionaries have given really helped to convert him. We have sweet FHE's! There are 3 comp's of Elders and two sister missionaries and a couple members come and a lot of investigators. It's probably the funnest night of the week for us. Jo Gi Hyun is going to be baptized on either the 6th or the 13th, but we haven't set a date for sure yet. He is starting his new job earlier than he thought so he can start coming to church. Elder Rigby and I are pretty happy about the work here. Actually, both transfers that I've been here with him have just been awesome. Today we are going to eat lunch at the Senior missionaries house with a few other missionaries. I made those pancakes you sent me a couple times already and they were way good! I made the cookies yesterday and we ate them with our investigators and members during lessons last night. They loved them. We had milk too, of course. I hope you have a fun day! I wish I was eating your vegetables today dang it.Talk to ya later. I love you!

Packages and Temple Day

I got the Thanksgiving package! Thanks! You got some good stuff! We also played some games in the gym of our church with some other missionaries today. Our areas are all fairly small so you don't have to travel far to meet up with other Elders.
Anyway, we're having a great week. We have three investigators Jo Gee Hyun, a 19 year old. Kim Sahng Hoon, he's like 30 and loves our church and members and the activities we do, but he has to work on Sunday once in a while so we're working on that. Moon Gwang Your is like 50 years old and knows the Bible really well and has been going to another church for the last 3 years every week. He likes us a lot. He's taken us out to dinner a couple times and he really seems to like meeting and learning about the gospel. He's getting a testimony of the BOM as he reads it and is really interested in our church. He told us about an experience at his work where he had a big decision to make and he was really stressed, but he read the BOM and prayed and he was able find the right answer to what he was worried about. PRETTY SWEET! We asked him to come to our church this Sunday and he said he would pray about it. He seemed pretty sincere so I think he'll get an answer when he prays. We're praying for him a lot and if you could too that would be good.
Well have a great week. I love you.

Lee Ju Hun (Ee Ju Hun) was baptized by Elder Rigby Saturday night. He has NO REGRETS! (He also has 20" biceps) And Elder Lufkin spoke at the service. (Picture from Bro & Sister Knudsen website)

Babtism and New Investigator

Hey thanks for all the pics. Those ribs look good! I'm glad you got (the gift I sent) before your b-day. Today I'm looking for Christmas presents for everybody. It's gotten kind of cold lately. I'm already using that big coat that you got me at night sometimes. I got a big scarf too. It's been a good week so far. Ee Ju Hoon made it to church barely and got the gift of the HG. He's doing well and is planning to go to Utah next summer and wants to live there forever. He might room with Elder Rigby at college. We've been meeting a Kid named Jo Gi Hyun for a couple weeks and he's progressing really well. He reads the BOM and likes it and he prays every day but he can’t come to church because of his job. He's only 18, but his family is Kind of poor so he has to work part time during high school. A couple days ago we planned to teach him about the Sabbath and ask him to see if he could get Sundays off, but before we asked him he told us he is going to switch jobs in January and he could start coming to church every week! He's really mature for his age and understands the gospel well and accepts everything we teach him. We're really good friends. He told us we're his role model. Ha.
Everything is going good here. We have been seeing tons of miracles in this area and having fun since we got here. I'm glad you had a good b-day. You asked me about Christmas a couple weeks ago and the only things I could really think of are a CTR ring, pictures, and maybe some cool talks from Apostles or like John Bytheway or something. Have a good week. I love you.

Making Kim Chi-Service Project

We went to a fun Kim Chi making service project a couple days ago. There were about a 1000 people there making Kim Chi for poor people. (pictures from Bro & Sister Knudsen website)
Kimchi is regarded as the national dish of Korea and is a pickled vegetable.
The favorite kimchee vegetable is Chinese (or Napa) cabbage. The Koreans ferment it in enormous quantities. They then pack the kimchee into huge earthenware jars, bury the jars in the ground up to the neck, and cover the lids with straw until the kimchee is needed

English Class and Cookies

Dear Mom,
Looks like you had a killer Halloween party! I hadn't seen a picture of Sophia for a long time! She looks so much bigger! Isabel is too. That’s awesome you get to hang out for a couple weeks. Say hi to all of them for me. I just got a package from them with some chocolate in it, it was sooo good!
We've had a great week, but got some bad news on Monday. Kim De Hyun won't be able to get baptized. We are going to fast for him and hopefully he can later. Ee Ju Hoon is still doing great though and he'll get baptized on Saturday. I think he'll be a great member and endure til the end! He came out to FHE on Monday night and it was way fun. There was about 15 people there and we played ‘Signs’ (Koreans really like that game) and had a lesson from the Sister missionaries about the Word of Wisdom. Last Saturday we had a party for English class and decorated the room and watched Hercules in English. I made some cookies with the stuff you sent me and they were way good. The Koreans liked them a lot. It was really weird watching a movie!
We've been having a lot of success this week with finding new people to teach. Thanks for the E-mail. Have a fun week!
Love,
Elder Lufkin

Best Time of My Mission

We've been doing super lately. We've been seeing tons of miracles every day and Kim De Hyun is planning to be baptized on the 14th and Ee Ju Hoon is on the 7th. They are both progressing really well and are changing. Today is transfer day but Elder Rigby and I are staying. Elder Grant left though and Elder Nye replaced him. This has probably been the best time of my mission so far. We've just been having a lot of sweet stuff happen. We ran into Ee Ju Hoon at his college campus the other day and so we sat down and talked about baptism and some of the commandments that he needs to keep. As we were talking some girls walked up and told him that our church was a cult and to look us up on the internet and went on for about 5 min. It was kind of hard. Anyway, after they left he was like "why would they say that" and so we talked about how our church has a lot of different beliefs from other churches. He seemed all right when we left but we were still really worried about it all day so we both prayed for him a lot. That night after bedtime he called Elder Rigby and told him that he talked to a trainer at his gym that is a member of our church and told him not to worry about the girls that we ran into. It was a big blessing and relief. Well I'm sending some pics of these two to you today so you can see them pretty soon. Have a good week. I love you!

'Blessings' from Heaven

We've been having an awesome week so far. Family home evening was way fun this week. We had two investigators come and they had a way good time. We played secret signs and it got pretty intense. Elder Rigby and I taught the lesson about tithing and we shared Malachi 3:10 about the blessings of paying tithing. It says some thing about blessings coming from the windows of heaven so we had Elder Grant and Skousen throw a bunch of candy in through the window after we read the scripture. It kinda scared everyone but it was pretty funny. Our investigators are doing great right now. Kim De Hyun is getting busier because of school but he still finds time to meet us a couple times a week. He's reading the BOM every day and is progressing well. Our next best is probably Ahn Gyung Yun. She was a referral from her sister who isn't able to meet anymore. She hasn't come to church yet, but she reads the BOM and really wants to learn about the gospel. We met some good new investigators this week too. Won Ding Oo saw our English flyer at his college and called us up. He's from China and isn't that great at Korean or English, but we just teach him really simply and he understands. We're going to order a Chinese BOM for him. We met another really good guy at Kim De Hyun's university named Ee Ju Hoon. We talked to him for a little while and he told us he was looking for a different church to go. He asked us if we knew of a good church to go to! We were like uh.. yah… ours! Ha. We talked to him for about an hour and a half and taught him the restoration and he really liked it and asked how soon he could get baptized! We told him he needs to learn about our message and come to church and he can get baptized. He was really good though. We're meeting him again on Saturday. Elder Rigby loves him because he's a body builder and Elder Rigby is trying to get big for college football. We actually started getting up at 5:50 this week so he can work out more. It's been pretty good because I can play basketball in the morning at our church for about half and hour each morning.
Well have a good week! I'm trying to find something cool for your Birthday. Thanks for the news. I love you,
Elder Lufkin

Lovin' the New Area

Hey I just got your card from Nauvoo. Thanks! I didn't know Brownings (Browning Guns) founder was a member of the church!
We just had a big training about Korean culture and how to get referrals so I was able to get it then.
I'm doing great. I'm lovin’ this area.
Conference was awesome and We got Kim De Hyun to come to part of it on Sunday. He heard a lot about serving other people from Elder Cooks talk so he helped a lady carry her groceries to her house on his way home. He said she gave him an apple for helping her and he got a hot feeling in his heart and it was like God was giving it to him. He texted us about it and said, "I meet God!!" and,"I feel that god is live." It was pretty sweet. He wants to get baptized. We don't have a date for sure yet but probably will pretty soon.
We've been eating good lately with all the stuff you sent me! I cooked the pancakes yesterday and they were Good!
That’s great that dad's doing better. It's so fun to carry on a conversation with him. It was fun driving around with him and listening to him sing Johnny Cash- ha. Well thanks for everything! I love you,
Elder Lufkin

Zone Conference, Sports Conference, General Conference

Hey thanks for the two packages. I got all the snacks and food from Nauvoo and the one with toothpaste and deodorant, but I haven't opened that one yet. That cornbread was dang good! I cooked it yesterday morning. I'm excited to have the muffins too. Elder Rigby just got a package from his girlfriend also, so we've been eating good lately. Sounds like you had a sweet trip. The picture of the temple was way cool.
We're all excited for General Conference this weekend! This is my second one in Korea.
We had a sports conference last week. It was way fun. We played basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, and Cho Koo which is like soccer tennis.
We had Zone Conference on Tuesday. That was great. President Burton gave some good training and talks and we heard from two departing missionaries that gave awesome talks. One of them was a Sister in my district that had a really hard time at the start of her mission and almost went home, but she talked about the story of how she decided to stay and it was pretty amazing. The work is going great for Elder Rigby and I. My Korean has been improving a lot faster since I've been with him. He's been with a Korean Comp for a long time so he helps me with pronunciation and stuff.
We're meeting some really good investigators right now. We met one of them named Han De Bong on the street about 1 week ago. He's about 45. We invited him to church and he came last Sunday. The members treated him really good. He loved our church and all the members. He has a teenage son too that hopefully we can meet. His wife died a little while ago though so I think he'll really like the Plan of Salvation. He is going to conference this week too. Pretty good story.
We've had tons of cool stuff happen in this area. I don't know why but things are going great.
Elder Rigby and I have an awesome time working together. He reminds me of Jake a little bit. He's actually half Korean, but he didn't know any Korean before his mission.
I am wanting to write to Dad, but I don't have his address. Could you just email it next week? Thanks. Have a great week.
I love you,
Elder Lufkin

'Killer Week'

Thanks for sending the package for me. I haven't got it yet but I probably will at Zone Conference next week. About the Korean recipes, I wouldn't worry about it, I like the food you cook a lot better than Korean food. Ha!
Anyway, we've had a killer week. We've been finding a lot of new investigators and we got a few really good referrals last week. This transfer we've been doing a big variety of things each day and it makes it a lot funner. You get pretty worn out if you just do one thing for like 3 hours. Some of the things we've been doing are: bringing people into the church to teach them, playing basketball with school kids then teaching them, passing out stacks of English flyers at subway stations, setting up a church poster board advertisement thing and sitting people down to teach them, visiting less actives and members.
It's been a really fun transfer. Elder Rigby and I get along really well and he's really motivating.
I got your two letters and the cookie recipes. Thanks. I'll send you one back on P day.
Have a good week! I love you,
Elder Lufkin

First Week in Dong Jak Ward

This was my first week in Dong Jak Ward. My Comp, Elder Rigby, is our District Leader and my former trainer, Elder Houston, and Elder Lealuai are our Zone Leaders.
This area is awesome! Our house is sweet, there's ton's of good people on the street, our ward members are way nice and they help us a lot with missionary work. Elder Rigby is really fun to be around, too, and we get a lot done. We have two investigators that are progressing right now and we have a lot of other appointments set so we should be picking up a lot more investigators.
I guess you're probably back from your trip already. That’s cool you got to go to Nauvoo. I want to go back there some time when I get home. I have a favor to ask you...I'm on my last tube of toothpaste and the stuff they have here is really weird. It’s kind of like kids toothpaste and doesn't really do anything. Do you think you could send me some more tooth paste and also some deodorant? … you can't buy it here. Could you also send some measuring stuff like teaspoons, tablespoons, 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup etc? They use the metric system here so you can't really get that stuff. That would be too cool. Oh and thanks for the cookie recipe. Koreans love cookies so that'll be good to take some to our members to bribe them for referrals! Hope your vacation was awesome! Have a good week. I love you,
Elder Lufkin

New Area, Dong Jak - New Companion, Elder Rigby

I just got to my new area today called Dong Jak. I met my new companion Elder Rigby and we went together. It’s a new area for both of us so it'll be a cool experience. There's already one set of Elders in the ward and they are doing so well that the Pres. sent us over here too. Elder Rigby's a way cool kid and he seems like a really hard worker. I think we'll do really well together. He's from Bountiful Utah and has been in Korea for almost a year. I've already been here 6 months! That’s crazy. Our house is pretty sweet. It reminds me of a cabin even though its in the middle of the city. Its kind of small for 4 missionaries, but it'll be fun. We have a couple of balconies and a little barbeque on one of them.
So, we're starting from scratch in this area. We don't have any investigators right now and neither of us knows any of the members yet. It'll be cool to see what we can do.
My last week in Shin Wol was good. We had 2 people with pretty solid baptism dates for the 27th, so I hope they both go through with it. I'm gonna miss the members and especially Ee Dong He, Ho Ju Suk, and Shin Yong Ha, but they're all pretty solid so I think they'll be fine.

Ee Dong He and Shin Yong Ha

Ho Ju Suk and Elder Lufkin

Ho Ju Suk was especially good. We didn't have a ward missionary leader for quite a while and he didn't have a job for a month so he was teaching with us about 5 times a week. It was great. He's only been a member for 2 months.
Anyways, one of my Zone Leaders in this area is Elder Houston so that'll be cool. I'm pretty excited to work here. Well, that’s about all the news. I'll send you all my pics today or next week. Have a good week!

Elder Lufkin

Milk & Cookies + Lemonade = New Investigators

Thanks for the pictures. The yard and house look way good! It looks like Ben's got things running pretty smooth too.
This has been a really good week. We had family home evening on Saturday night at the church and had a pretty good turnout. We had a lesson about the Book of Mormon then we ate cookies and milk and played ping pong. Ee Dong He and Sheen Yong Ha both came and now they want to read the BOM more than they did before. It was good.
On Monday, we did our 'lemonade finding activity' again and it was really good. The Zone leaders came too so there were 6 of us. We have to take a big tent and chairs, table, and a cooler and two big poster boards to the intersection where we do it so we throw it all on the cart that holds the chairs in the church gym and push it down. It is about a ten minute walk from the church. After we had been there for about an hour and a half some guys that work for the city came and made us leave, but it went good. Thanks for the $! That'll pay for 2 weeks!
We met a new investigator yesterday that called us from an English flyer and he wants to come to church on Sunday. His name is Kim Tae Hoon. He really liked the Plan of Salvation. He is 15 years old and has been going to school in Fiji to learn English. He's only home for a couple weeks so we'll have to meet him a lot.
Our other investigators are doing pretty good. Ee Jay Een got work off for the first time this Sunday so he can come to church. As long as he can keep coming to church he'll be able to get baptized in two or three weeks. I won't be here for that though. We had interviews with the President on Tuesday and he said I'm probably outa here. I won't know where until next Tuesday. It'll be good to go to a new area, but it (is sad) leaving the recent converts and stuff.
Today we are going to a Korean War Museum. I've heard it is pretty cool and we’re excited.

Lemonade Stand ??!!

It's been an awesome day and a really good week too. This transfer we've been doing English class and it is been going pretty good. On Monday we did a ‘finding activity’ on the street for people with English interests with the other 2 elders in our district. We set up a big tent and gave lemonade to people and gave out stuff about the Church, BOM, and English class. We already have 2 new investigators from that. We might start doing this activity once a week because it worked really well. It is a little expensive though.
Could you forward my emails to Dad and brothers and sisters? I'd appreciate it because I don't really have enough time to email everyone. So how’s the yard and grass outside the fence treating ya? How have you been watering the lawn?
Anyway, have an awesome week! I love you.
Elder Lufkin

Elder and Sister Knudsen

Elder and Sister Knudsen are also in our district. They're the senior missionary couple. We get to have district meeting at their house and they always make us lunch too. It is so good to have some American food! They are awesome too. It reminds me of going to Grandpa and Grandma Jones’ house.

Elder Kappas, Elder Jube, Elder Sung, Elder Lufkin, Brother and Sister Knudsen, Senior Missionaries

Sight Seeing and Attending the Temple

I'm in Pyun Tek right now by the American Army base. We came here for a couple hours to look around and get some souvenirs and Mexican food. It's been way fun. It feels like I’m in Mexico or Costa Rica!

This morning we got to go to the Temple too. That is always awesome.

Teaching English and FHE

I had way good lunch today! We have a new missionary in our district named Elder Sung and his Aunt invited us over for lunch. Ho Ju Suk came too because we have to have a man there when we meet with women. It has been another good week. We started teaching English Class on Tuesday nights and Family Home Evening on Saturday nights. It is pretty fun and is good for finding people.
It kind of takes a while to adjust to a new companion and how they teach and stuff, but we're working together pretty well. Elder Kappas is really easy going compared to Elder Houston, but he's a really good teacher and has lots of good new ideas. Our investigators are doing pretty well. Kang Sun Oo will be baptized on the 13th of next month and we're teaching a family of 4 that is doing pretty well too.
I've been getting in a little better shape lately. I usually run for about 15 minutes in the morning and work out at a park by our house. Anyway...I'm doing awesome! Have a good week.

Love,
Elder Lufkin

Things are going well with Elder Kappas. He is way nice and has some good new ideas. We've had a good week so far.
Today we're going to a Buddhist Temple...that'll be cool.
Elder Cook is coming to Korea today or tomorrow for a single adult conference and Ho Ju Suk is going to it!

I decided not to buy a suit but I did buy a Korean Translator slash MP3 player. My ipod quit working and I needed one for study. It's been really nice to have. I got the camera card back and your letter. Thanks! I'll send another one here in a little bit. Hope you have an awesome week! I love you,

New Companion, Elder Kappas

I got a new companion today named Elder Kappas. He and Elder Houston went to High School together. He's a nice kid. He's our district leader.

Elder Kappas Elder Lufkin

Elder Houston is a Zone Leader now in a different Zone. Elder Houston and I worked together really well. I think I'll do well with Elder Kappas too. He's a lot different (than Elder Houston) but he's a good missionary.

Farewell to Elder Houston

I had a way good week. Yesterday Ho Ju Suk took us out to dinner and dropped like 36 bucks on us. He was like, "It's ok, I think I'm richer than you" HA! Ho Ju Suk also came with us to the next two appointments and helped us teach. He's such a good member! Hopefully the bishop will give him a calling this week. Last Sunday, we made him dinner and ate together and he helped us teach then too. Everyone was pretty bummed that Elder Houston was leaving. He was here for 6 months.

We've got some good investigators that we want to set baptismal dates with this week. Kang Sun Oo can't meet very often-usually just after church. He's doing well though.
Anyway, I'm doing awesome. Thanks for the letters and E mails.
I love you,
Elder Lufkin

Generous Ward Members

That is awesome Ethan is going on a mission. Tell him good choice from me.
We just got back from the Temple today. It was way nice.
I think I'm going to try and cut my own hair today and save a little money. It's usually like 8 bucks.
We normally buy groceries today, but we ran into some ward members last night and they took us to the grocery store and bought a bunch of groceries for us. We usually don't buy hardly any meat because it's so expensive, but they got us a bunch! It was really awkward, but we were thankful for it.
This weekend we planned for Sheen Yong Ha to get baptized Sunday and Ho Jung Hoon to get Baptized Saturday, but Ho Jung Hoon's family is (not happy) and he said he won't be able to get baptized. We're excited for Sheen Yong Ha though. He's way nice and we've got to be really good friends. He's Ee Dong He's best friend so they go to church together.
Those members bought us some Zucchini. Do you know a good way to cook it?
Thanks, good to hear from ya. Have a good week. Love,
Elder Lufkin

Proselyte Changes and Transfers

We've had a good week. Yesterday was especially good. Our whole mission is starting to proselyte a little different. We used to bring up our English program when we'd talk to people on the street and a lot of the time we'd talk to people alone to talk to more people. Now we don't talk about English at all and always Proselyte together. It’s been way good. We have to work a lot harder to get our goal of how many people we talk with, but it’s a lot more effective. We're not allowed to talk to women on the street, but we usually talk to every guy we see. Yesterday, we met some really good new investigators and we could just feel the spirit more as we talked to people.
We had interviews with President Burton a couple days ago and he said that Elder Houston is leaving this area but I'll be staying next transfer. That kind of sucks, but oh well. We planned Kang Sun Oo's baptism date for this week, but we'll have to wait a week or two because he's only been able to meet once or twice a week lately because of college and stuff. The school system here makes it hard to meet with investigators. They have school all day, then study all night. I don't know how they can take it!
Thanks for all the pictures! The ranch looks nice. I like the picture of Lana and Jake with the antlers. Ha!
That’s awesome James is going through the temple with Jake. That was really nice to go through with him when I went.
I got the Ipod charger and all the candy (in the mail). Thanks! Elder Houston says thanks too. It’s so nice having some candy during study in the morning. Thanks for the letter too.
Love,
Elder Lufkin

Zone Conference

I had a way good week. I just got back from companion exchanges. I went to Elder Jubes area and his companion, Elder Jung, came to our area yesterday. It was good to see how another Elder does stuff and I learned some new Korean and I learned how to play Chang Gi. It’s similar to chess, but it’s a Korean or Chinese game.
On Tuesday we had our zone conference. That was an awesome day. It went from 9 to 4 so we ate lunch (Subway) while we were there too.
We learned a lot about all the steps of baptism and the role our ward should play with the recent converts. The last 2 hours of the meeting were for testimony sharing and short talks from departing missionaries. It was so cool. I could feel the spirit realllllly strong and I was able to think out some questions really clearly that I had been wondering about. Kind of like how it is at the temple.

We have one Elder in our district named Elder Jung that has been out for 6 months. He got called up by the Korean Army and he has to do his mandatory 2 years of service after this transfer ends. I feel pretty bad for him. He is going to come right back to our mission after the 2 years though. We're lucky to live in the U.S.
I think I told you about that 22 year old kid I met on the bus a couple weeks ago named Kang Sun Oo. He came to church twice and all the members fellowshipped him really well. After church last week we made french toast for him and Ho Ju Suk and then taught him the Plan of Salvation. I'm way excited for him. That was an awesome day.
That’s about all the news this week I guess. Thanks for the E mail. Have a good week!
Love,
Elder Lufkin
